Summer Tips From Property Management Experts

As an expert property management company in Tampa, we know that summertime can be a laid back time for many, but this doesn’t equate to a laissez-faire approach to safety. We’ll give you a list of safety tips that’ll help your residents stay safe in the sun, in the water, on the playground, and more.

Sun Safety

Encourage residents to stay hydrated, apply sunscreen, and wear sunglasses and hats when heading outdoors. If possible, they can schedule their outside fun during times when heat is less intense. If they plan to exercise, swim, or mow the lawn, perhaps they can do so before 10 am and after 4 pm.

Playground Safety

The neighborhood kids will play on the playground more during the summer. Keep the following safety tips in mind:

  • Repair and maintain equipment
  • Require shoes at all times
  • Ensure your property has insurance
  • Require parental supervision for under-aged children
  • Avoid installing ropes or anything that could cause strangling
  • Avoid using metal or plastic products that could cause burns
  • Routinely check playground for hazards such as parts that may poke, pinch, or trap children

Water Safety

Post and enforce all water safety rules. Ensure your community pool is regularly cleaned and monitored for potential hazards. Require adult supervision for minors at all times, and consider hiring a lifeguard. You can also offer free CPR safety classes and provide life jackets and other safety equipment for use in emergency situations. Additionally, alcoholic beverages should be prohibited and the pool should remain closed during inclement weather.

Holiday Safety

Although residents may grill anytime of the year, grilling is likely to take place the most around the holidays. Grill safety includes keeping grills at least six feet from structures and trees, keeping grill lids closed to cut to decrease the likelihood of a flare-up, and keeping water and a fire extinguisher at the site in case of an emergency. Additionally, you may ban the use of fireworks altogether because they can result in severe injuries or death. Instead, encourage residents to attend public firework events.

Bug Safety

Bugs activity is at an all-time high during the summer, especially mosquitos. Some helpful tips for bug safety include avoiding the use of scented soaps and perfumes, eliminating stagnant water sources, and use a combination of sunscreen and bug repellant containing DEET. Additionally, wearing darker colors and long sleeved shirts and pants will decrease insect bites.

A Property Manager Can Help

Some things are your resident’s responsibilities, but it doesn’t hurt to post tips around the community or send them in a newsletter to help them remember. If your community needs to develop a summer safety program that includes burglary prevention, our Tampa property management company can help you develop and execute a security program that meets the needs of the community.
